Tongues wagged on Friday after the office of DP Ruto sent news to the media houses that he hosted the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President Kenyatta for a luncheon at his Karen home.
The three had come from requiem mass of former Maendeleo ya Wanawake Chair Jane Kiano at ACK St Francis Church which is very close to DP's home.
Business tycoon Jimi Wanjigi was also in attendance. His presence in the big three lunch signaled that something bigger must have been discussed.
Mr Wanjigi is a former friend of President Kenyatta. He disclosed that Jubilee Party was formed in his house after their bitter break up with the President.
“I want to tell President Uhuru Kenyatta that you know this home very well. You have had meals here with my family several times. The current government was formed in this very house,” Wanjigi told the media after they fell out in 2017.
The tycoon also said that it was in his house that NASA leader Raila Odinga agreed to concede defeat and shake the President’s hand in 2013.
Wanjigi then became one of the driving forces behind the formation of Nasa after parting ways with Mr Kenyatta.
This is the first time Mr Ruto is formally hosting the President and Mr Odinga since the March 9 handshake.
Even though the details of the meeting were not made public, handshake 2 may have occurred between Mr Odinga and DP Ruto.
This could signal a ceasefire between Mr Ruto and Mr Odinga. The two had exchanged bitter words in the recent months with Mr Ruto claiming that Mr Odinga is out to bring confusion and divide Jubilee through “gossip and propaganda”.
“The handshake is not a license for you to bring confusion, propaganda and conman-ship into our party," the DP said last month
